The 𝑺𝑻𝑶𝑹𝒀𝑻𝑬𝑳𝑳𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑰𝑵 𝑴𝑼𝑺𝑬𝑼𝑴𝑺 Study Trip: Iceland, 9-16 March 2025
Ioana Ursu, museographer at the National Museum of the Union, took part in the study visit “Storytelling in museums”, from March 9 to 16, as part of a bilateral initiative.
11 museographers and specialists from different parts of the country visited Icelandic museums and landmarks in Icelandic history as part of the program to learn about the museum weaving of stories.
Study institutes, museums (public or private) and places full of stories, memory and literature – all form a unique cultural landscape discovered by the 11 specialists from Romania, including a representative of the National Museum of the Union.
From the Árni Magnússon Institute, the National Museum of Iceland, the National Art Gallery of Iceland (House of Collections), the Cultural House and Museum of the Vestman Islands (Sagnheimar), the Eldheimar Museum, Skansinn, Stafkirkjan, Landlyst, The Lava Center, The Norwegian House, Hraunhals, Helissandur, the route took them through Reykyavík, the Vestman Islands, Hvolsvöllur, Skalholt, Thingvellir, Reykholt, Stykkisholmur, the Snæfellsnes peninsula, and finally, in a leisurely pace, Reykjavík for the history of the city and its buildings.
Our colleague’s testimony at the end of the journey: ”People set the world in motion and that gives hope; this is what I have observed and learned from the Icelandic experience. Passion for storytelling, perseverance and flexibility are values that can be put to good use to develop in, with and through museums, but only alongside people!”
